California Dreamin'

We had such a fabulous first "real" vacation with the kids. They were perfect on the flight (Daniel was a little nervous crossing the threshold to the plane but was fine after that). They loved coloring, the Ipad and visiting with their neighbors. Worked out well that we were sitting next to another 3 year old so they could share their toys.

We hit the zoo on Day 1. San Diego zoo is HUGE. Should have rented a stroller ... should have waited until we adjusted to the Pacific timezone ... but it was still fun and very neat to see. Best attraction? The moving side walk, of course:

They also really liked making their own pennies:

Oh, the sky tram was pretty awesome too!

The hotel was perfect. La Costa. The rooms were gigantic and we fit great with two queens in our room and adjoining rooms with Mom and Dad. The tub was huge. We had to make bath toys out of plastic cups and washcloths but they figured out some creative ways to make it fun:

We did a lot of swimming at the resort pool and splashpad. Andrew was taking on 8 and 9 yr olds with the water blasters.

We all enjoyed the togetherness time. The big boys got to play golf twice and the rest of us napped (yes, actually napped) in the room. Thanks again for an amazing trip, KK and Popsie!

We rented a suburban for the trip. I want one now. There was an issue with where the carseats could click in and the the chair folding down for Robert to get in the way back ... so he had to climb through the rear everytime. We thought about leaving him back there a few times ... but he was a good sport.

Love this picture but would you believe the boys didn't eat the smore's?! Too sticky ... I should have known! They ate the pieces individually though. I loved my smore though :)

Love this one of Robert and Daniel:

We were so busy the whole trip that we didn't make it to the beach until the very last day. It was early and overcast so it felt great outside. Andrew and Daniel loved exploring the beach, playing in the water, and making sandcastles.

I can't believe I actually got my parents to a beach!? I think they took us to Galveston once when we were kids.

Building castles:

Obviously Robert was REALLY into this. Yes, there was a moat.

We also hit up Legoland. We were so nervous the boys would be too anxious to ride anything. However, we were pleasantly surprised that they rode EVERY ride we offered them, including a pretty major roller coaster. This place was made for them. We even bought Lego crocs to commemorate the trip.

At the entrance:

Driving the race cars. This was probably the cutest thing ever watching them figure out how to drive these things. Thanks to riding our neighbors cars every now and then, they did a pretty good job:

Up high in the airplane:

Checking out next steps on the map:

And one last hug by the pool:

Trips like this make you want to travel all the time. We really weren't ready to come home. Sure, they had their incredibly cranky and way overtired moments but all of the happiness and experience of watching them experience new things way overshadowed any of the tears.

Looking forward to many more fun trips ahead!
